Les Arcs has consisted of three modern resorts at 1600, 1800 and 2000 metres. All pedestrianised, the resorts are conveniently placed to access the large ski area. The original Arcs 1600 has a village atmosphere, and lies on a scenic plateau above Bourg-St-Maurice. Many die-hards regard this as the friendliest and easiest place to stay. Above this, Arcs 1800 is the largest village, enjoying a lively, action-packed atmosphere. It the most builtup and cosmopolitan, and comprises of the hamlets of Le Charvet, Le Chantel, Les Villards and Charmettoger. Higher still, Arcs 2000 lies at the foot of the Aiguille Rouge and offers the most direct access to snow-sure skiing. The resort has been expanded by the recent opening of Arc 1950 - already a popular fourth zone and a thriving community.
Les Arcs offers all-round excellent skiing and boarding for every level of ability. It has cleverly further enchanced its general appeal by doubling up with nearby La Plagne to form the Paradiski ski area. With a new cable car linking the two, the area has become so extensive that even the speediest of skiers are pushed to travel the range in a single day.
